Comes the Word of Yahweh in Parables
Prophecy for Today
Comes the Word of Yahweh to Tohuel
Thus comes the Word of Yahweh to Tohuel1, saying, “Ben-Adam2, Lift up your eyes and tell me what you see. Open your eyes and speak.”
And Tohuel opens his eyes, and behold, he sees emptiness. And Tohuel opens his mouth to answer Yahweh, saying, “Behold, Lord, I open my eyes to look, and I see nothingness. There is a void, and all is barren and empty. There is no meaning or purpose. Life is gone and the fire is put out. There is only stillness where once there is life.”
The Word of Yahweh comes again to Tohuel, saying, “Where do you look, and what do you seek? Do I not say to you, ‘Lift up your eyes’? Why, then, are you looking down into your own depths? I do not yet fill you. You are dry and empty and used-up, for you do not come to me to be filled. Now lift up your eyes and look, o seer, and see what I AM doing!”
So Tohuel raises up his eyes and looks out, and, behold, there is light and life, and Yahweh is walking in the garden of green. Therefore Tohuel cries out to Yahweh, saying, “Alas, Lord, I cannot look, for I am empty inside and it is too painful to see such beauty when I am empty and dry! Take away my sight, that I might see no more, for it is too much for me to bear!”
Comes the Word of Yahweh to Tohuel, saying, “Would you remain empty and void with no meaning and worth? Why do you refuse to be filled? Why do you not eat and drink in my garden and feast on My presence? Lo, I would create in you life in abundance and joy, and yet you refuse to be filled! You cry in your despair and grief that you are empty and cut off, yet you shut your eyes and close your mouth and stop your ears to keep from being filled with the gifts of life!”
Then Tohuel bows his head. When he can no longer bear his emptiness, he cries out to Yahweh, and Yahweh hears the cry of his heart and feels the pain of his emptiness and Yahweh speaks into Tohuel, saying, “Let there be light!”
And the light shines, and the darkness and emptiness are overcome.
Then comes again the Word of Yahweh to Tohuel, saying, “See, you are filled with light and meaning. No longer are you Tohuel, for Yahweh gives you light, and you are full. You are Elbara3, for Yahweh creates light in you.”
Then Elbara opens his mouth, and light bursts forth, for his emptiness is no more.
Thus is the Word of Yahweh come to Tohuel, who is Elbara, the seer.
1 Tohuel: "Empty of God"
