Hand to Hand

We walked together side by side, a task
In common to fulfill. Our mission great
Beyond the hope of any one to state
A claim of ownership or yet to ask
To do the job alone. Along the trail
Some lines were drawn, our ranks were split in two
Opposing lines of thought, forgetting Who
Had called us to the effort. Pale
Attempts to tackle foes were met within
By clash and strain. To meet the charge was found
The aid of willing feet to tread the ground.
Yet from within were sprung the traps we set.
Though hand in hand we marched to face the foe,
Our very lines were turned in head to toe.
